These unique light fixtures — made by combining recycled plumbing hardware with custom glass bulbs — are more than pretty fixtures. They serve as visual reminders of environmental activism. Tanya Clarke, the daughter of Canadian political activist Tony Clarke, says, "The goal of Liquid Light is to promote the protection of one of the precious commodities here on earth, water." She hand sculpts the glass drops onto the recycled materials, which helps to symbolize the fragility of the element. 5% of Liquid Light's sales goes towards global water education, action and justice issues via the Polaris Institute.

VERGII America: The Magazine for World Arts & Cultures

Tanya Clarke's 'Liquid Light' series experiments with the fusion of art, function & environmental consciousness by creating a visual reminder of the precious commodity that water is and our need to protect this natural resource. Low-voltage lights, hand-sculpted glass drops and reclaimed plumbing are incorporated in contribution to the zero footprint movement in the form of 'Liquid Light'. Tanya Clarke was raised in Ottawa, Canada. She is the daughter of leading political and environmental activist, Tony Clarke. She currently lives on the beach in California where she collects things and puts them together. Liquid Light is an expression of her present environment and upbringing. The lights themselves are made from a variety of pieces, including: piping, valves, faucets, gauges, and (most imortantly), the glass water drops.

Evil Monito Review

Sometimes the concerns of environmental issues and concepts that are looked over by most of us everyday can be brought to light through artwork. That’s exactly what Venice-based artist Tanya Clarke did when she utilized installation work as a form of spreading the message of water conservation with her ‘Liquid Lights’ series at the Gallery of Functional Art. Clarke uses LED lights and found objects such as recycled glass and reused hardware to create her masterpiece and also to make you think twice about leaving the faucet on in the other room while you’re playing Left for Dead 2. A proceed of the proceeds of all purchases goes towards the Polaris Institute, which provides education and action on global water justice issues.
